SCHOOL GUIDELINES

Uniform Code

Dennis Uniform is our Uniform Company. Dennis Uniform participates in the Paddy Certificate Program. If you will be purchasing uniform items purchase Dennis Uniform Certificates.

Note:   This is final year with Dennis Uniforms. 
You will be informed of new company by Spring Registration.

 

I.          Girls’ Uniform

A.        Girls Grades:  K – 3

·                    Green Plaid Uniform Jumper

·                    Rounded Plain Collared Solid White Blouse

·                    Plain Collared Knit Shirt

·                    Solid White Turtleneck or Mock Turtleneck; Long Sleeve

·                    Green Shirt with St. Patrick Lettering (available from Dennis Uniforms) Can only be worn with slacks/uniform shorts 

B.        Girls Grades:  4 – 8

·                    Green Plaid Uniform Skirt or Culotte – at the knee

·                    Plain two or three-button white polo style shirt
No cap or three-quarter-length sleeve

·                    Short or long sleeve white oxford cloth blouse with button down collar

·                    Plain white flat knit turtleneck or mock turtleneck (no ribbing)

·                    Green Shirt with St. Patrick Lettering (available from Dennis Uniforms) Can only be worn with slacks/uniform shorts

·                    No rolling of skirts 

C.        Girls Grades:  K – 8

·                    Blouses/shirts must be tucked in at all times

·                    Shirts worn under the blouse/shirt must be a Plain White T-Shirt

·                    The following are the only items that may be worn over the collared uniform blouse/shirt:

Plain Solid Navy Blue Sweater

Sleeveless Fleece Vest With St. Patrick’s Logo

St. Patrick Logo Sweatshirt

·                    Pleated Navy Blue Trousers.  Corduroy is acceptable.  No jean styling.

·                    Solid Navy Blue or White Knee High Socks, Tights, or White Crew Socks well above ankle.(Please be sure that the socks you purchase state Crew Socks on the package). 

II.        Boys Grades:  K – 8

·                    Plain White Collared Dress or Knit Shirt

·                    Solid White Turtleneck or Mock Turtleneck Long Sleeve

·                    Green Shirt with St. Patrick Lettering (available from Dennis Uniforms)

Can only be worn with slacks/uniform shorts

·                    Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

·                    Shirts worn under the Uniform Shirt must be a Plain White T-Shirt

·                    The following are the only items that may be worn over the collared uniformblouse/shirt:

III.      Hair Length – Boys

A.        Length of hair must be above the uniform collar, above the ears, and above the eyebrows.  

B.                No inappropriate/Fad Hair Cuts/or coloring of hair will be permitted.  Neat appearance plays an important role in setting the tone of the school. 

                        C.        Girls – hair may not obstruct vision. 

IV.       Shoes – Girls and Boys:  Grades K – 8

                        A.        Dress or Gym Shoes:  Backless shoes cannot be worn

                        B.        Dress Shoes. Leather, Leather-look or Suede. Dark Solid Colors
                                    are permitted.

                        C.        Sandals, Clogs and Workboots are not permitted in school. 

D.          Gym Shoes:  Non-skid soles only.

Note:   During the bad weather season of November 1st through May    1st if your child/ren is wearing gym shoes to school, a separate pair of laced or Velcro gym shoes is to be used for P.E. class.  The gym shoes being used for P.E. class should have the initial of your child’s first name and entire last name on the outside of the gym shoe.

V.        Jewelry

                        A.        Boys will not be permitted to wear earrings of any kind. 

B.                 Girls are permitted to wear Stud Type Earrings Only.  No hoop or dangle earrings will be permitted. 

C.                Medals or crosses may be worn.  No fashion necklaces. 

D.        All jewelry must be removed prior to participation in P.E. Class. 

VI.       Make-Up

                        A.        Make-Up may not be worn.  Nail polish may not be worn.

  VII.     Shorts

A.        Uniform shorts will be permitted during the months of August and September and from May 15th through the end of the school year.  The principal will have the sole discretion to allow shorts on any other days as deemed appropriate. 

B.        On the First Friday in September/June – if shorts are worn they must be uniform shorts.  (If a class has an Out of Uniform Day during the time when shorts are permitted, if shorts are worn – they need to be uniform shorts). 

C.        Uniform Shorts – Girls’ Only. 

Dennis Uniform offers for girls’ a navy blue and a Belair Plaid Trouser Short.  The plaid trouser short can only be worn with a white shirt/blouse.  The navy blue short can be worn with the white or green shirt. 

VIII.    First Fridays

A.                Skirt length should be the same as uniform days – at the knee. 

B.                 No tanks or camis.  Shirts must be of substantial material, hip length, and may not be form-fitting. 

C.                Backless Dress Shoes are permitted on First Fridays only. 

D.        Anyone inappropriately dressed will receive a notification and then get the needed item from the nurse’s office.  

IX.       Out of Uniform Days

A.                Appropriate jeans, slacks, trousers.  Girls may wear capris that are at or below kneecap. 

                        B.        Pants must fit appropriately. 

C.        Tee shirts need to be hip length – sayings on shirt must be
                        appropriate.  Anyone inappropriately dressed will receive a
                        notification, and go to the nurse's office for the needed item.

D.                Socks – Regular Uniform Code 

E.                 Shoes – Regular Uniform Code 

F.                  Anyone inappropriately dressed will receive a notification and then get the needed item from the nurse’s office.  

Note:   During the 2007 – 2008 school year, the Home/School Association will be selling School “Spiritwear”.  Almost all Spiritwear items can be worn on Out of Uniform Days.  You will be informed if any items cannot be worn. 

Please note that Neatness and Good Taste are Primary Goals: 

1.                  Slacks, Trousers, Corduroys and Shorts are to be dress type in style.  No rolling, cuffing or elasticized ankles will be permitted.

2.                  Blue Jeans, Denim, or Jean Styling will not be permitted.  This includes, but is not restricted to stitching and/or designer styles. 

3.                  Plain Means No Logos, Emblems, or monograms except St. Patrick School Logos, which are Sweatshirts/Uniform Shirts purchased through the Home/School Association/Dennis Uniforms. 

4.                  Adherence to the school uniform code is expected.  If the guidelines are not followed, the following steps will be taken. 

Step 1:                  Student receives Notification, and gets needed item from
                              nurse’s office.  Notification is to be signed by parent, and
                              returned to school on the next school day.     

Step 2:                  Parent Conference with Homeroom Teacher.

Step 3:                  Parent Conference with Homeroom Teacher/Principal. 

In the event of conflicting opinions among parent, students or faculty, as to the correct interpretation of the Uniform Code – the decision made by the school principal shall be final and binding.
