FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Parent,

I hope that everyone is having a great summer. I am confident that with your continued cooperation, the faculty of St. Patrick Catholic School will provide a positive educational experience for your child/ren in the coming school year.

Please Note:

  • This year the bell for Grades 1 - 8 will ring at 8:30 AM.
  • This year outside supervision by teachers will be 8:15 - 8:30 AM.
  • The tardy bell will ring at 8:35 AM.
  • Dismissal time is 2:55 PM.

Faculty:

  • Welcome to Mrs. Maria Alexander, new 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Sarah Pistilli, new 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Celeste Phelan, new Junior High Religion teacher, and Mrs. Shannon McCall, new Junior High Health teacher.
  • Mr. Cordier will continue his regular teaching schedule and be the Assistant Principal, but he will no longer have a homeroom.  Mr. Cordier will now be in Room 2 (where Junior High Religion was previously taught) in the lower level of Rempe.  Mrs. Polek will now be the Grade 8 - Room 203 Homeroom teacher.  Mrs. Polek will continue to teach Writing Lab in 202, and Junior High Religion will now be in 203.

Classroom Placement:

Some families have requested the placement of their child in a certain teacher’s class for the 2007 – 2008 School Year.  We do appreciate parents’ thoughts on the matter, however many factors are considered in determining class lists, and the final decision is made by the school. Class lists will be posted in the school on Wednesday, August 22nd 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 6:00 – 7:00 PM.  This is also Volunteer Sign-Up Day during the same hours.  We hope you consider signing up to help the school in some way, before you see your child’s homeroom assignment for the 2007 – 08 school year.

School Uniform Code:

St. Patrick Catholic School supports the tradition of school uniforms and dress code guidelines.  Neatness, modesty, and good taste are the primary goals.  In this past school year, these three goals were not always attained by the students.  To assist in reaching these goals, there are changes in the Uniform Code. Please read over the uniform code that is on the website.  The changes will be in bold. Please check that your child/ren are in compliance with the code beginning with the first day of school.

Uniform Notes:

  • Since there are some changes to the code, for the first 3 days of school, (August 29th, 30th, and 31st), there will be verbal reminders.  The code will be enforced beginning on Tuesday, September 4th.
  • Grades K - 5: It is usually the homeroom teacher who enforces the code.
  • Grades 6 - 8: mrs. Polek is the Uniform Supervisor.
  • All teachers are asked to assist with the Uniform Code, so a uniform notification can be issued by any teacher.
  • This summer and during the school year, please check the code before buying any items.
  • This is St. Pat's final year with Dennis Uniforms.  You will be informed of the new company by spring registration.

Grade K - 8 Student Accident Insurance Coverage:
St. Patrick Catholic School will once again provide for all K - 8 students, student accident insurance coverage for the 2007 - 2008 school year. In the event your child has an accident during the school day or at a school sponsored activity, please request an insurance form from the office. (Note: This insurance is meant to be a supplement for your regular health insurance). There is no cost to school families. The premium is paid by the parish.

School Safety:

All doors are kept locked during the school day. Whenever you need to enter the school, please go to the main entrance at 5th and State Street. You will need to get a Visitor's Badge if you will be going beyond the office. Please do not ask a student to let you in at another entrance. Note: During lunchtime recess, please first go to the office and get a note before speaking to your child on the playground. Please show an outside supervisor the note before speaking to your child. The supervisors do not know all the parents, and this will assist them in maintaining proper supervision.

Grades K - 8 Cell Phones:

The only phone a student can use during the school day and when the school office is open before or after school is the office phone. The student must have a pass to use the phone. If a student brings a cell phone to school, the cell phone must be kept off during the school day, and kept in the student's locker. Any student using a cell phone during the school day and when the office is open before or after school will receive a detention and the phone will be taken and kept in the office. The parent will need to get the cell phone from the office. Note: The same guidelines/consequences apply to MP3, DVD players and items of this nature.

Grades K - 8 Detentions:
A detention is issued after a student receives 3 notifications in one semester, or makes an inappropriate choice that immediately warrants a detention.  The student stays one hour after school 2:55 – 3:55 PM.  Beginning this school year, detentions will be on Tuesday and Thursday. NOTE:  If a student cannot serve a detention on their designated day, a second detention will be issued.

Grades 4-8 Home Books:
Child/ren will receive their homebooks during the first week of school.

Grades 6-8 Honor Roll:
There has been an update on the B Honor Roll.  Please review the criteria so you know what is needed to attain the B Honor Roll.  The Honor Roll Criteria is listed on the website under Academic Expectations.

St. Pat's Buses - New Cameras:
New bus cameras similar to District 303 cameras have been installed on the St. Pat’s buses. This will assist in the supervision of the students.  Thanks to the Home/School Association for paying for the cameras
