Dear Junior High Parent (Grades 6 8),
We will soon be welcoming our students back to school. The following is information
that is important to know before the start of the school year.
Junior High Teachers
·
Welcome to Mrs. Sarah Pistilli, 6th grade teacher. Mrs.
Pistilli previously taught at Monroe School in Wheaton.
·
Mrs. Shannon McCall is the new 6th, 7th & 8th
grade Health Teacher. She also teaches at Delnor Hospital.
Jr. High Academic Expectations
St. Patrick Catholic School expects each student to succeed and grow academically, as
well as spiritually and emotionally. A student having academic difficulty will be assisted
by teachers and principal. However, if a junior high student fails to maintain the
standards of the school, the following procedure will be implemented.
If a junior high student fails a subject two or more quarters, the student will be
required to cover the necessary subject matter in a summer school course. Course
requirements will be determined by the classroom teacher and the principal. The tutor will
sign a statement that the student has completed the required work. At the 8th grade level
failure in one subject (two or more quarters) may result in withholding the student's
diploma. If a junior high student fails three or more academic subjects (two or more
quarters of failing grades), the student will not be promoted to the next grade at St.
Patrick School.
A student receiving an "Incomplete" on the report card needs to make up the
required work promptly. If the incomplete grade is not made up by mid-term report of
following quarter, the grade becomes an F. Special circumstances will be worked out by
student and teacher if a change in the deadline is needed.
Homework
- Concerning homework which is not completed on time, each teacher will be informing you
of his/her policy. However, late homework will result in lower grade, homework notice,
telephone call home, or further action by the teacher.
- When a student is absent, homework will be sent to the office after two or
more days.
- The student will have as many days to make up the homework, as he/she was absent. It is
the student's responsibility to find out what was missed and make arrangements to make up
quizzes and tests.
- If a student will be gone for an extended period due to vacation, etc., teachers will be
able to give an overview of material that will be covered. Specific written work, tests,
and quizzes will be made up when the student returns.
Student Conduct
Overall, our students behave in a respectful and appropriate manner. However, at the
Junior High Level, the following concerns have come up in the past year. Before the first
day of school, please discuss these with your child/ren.
- Please review updated Uniform Code. Not Following the Uniform Code:
Students are to be in proper uniform at all times. This includes keeping shirts and
blouses tucked in during the day. According to our Uniform Code, any student not in
compliance receives a notification, and will go to the nurse's office to get the needed
item.
- Chewing Gum in School: Any student chewing gum during the day receives
a
notification.
- * Copying Another Student’s Homework/Giving Out Your
Homework For Another Student to Copy
* Cheating on a Test/Giving Out Answers During a Test:
For all students involved, the grade for the assignment/test will be a zero, and each will
receive a detention.
- Bringing Inappropriate Materials/Items To School:
Students should only bring to school materials needed for their classes. Any student
bringing inappropriate materials to school will receive a detention. (Note: If you have
the Internet, please monitor your child's use of it).
- Cell Phones:
The only phone a student can use during the day and when the school office is open before
or after school is the office phone. The student must have a pass to use the phone. If a
student brings a cell phone to school, the cell phone must be kept off during the school
day, and kept in the student's locker. Any student using a cell phone during the school
day and when the office is open before or after school will receive a detenton and the
phone will be taken and kept in the office. The parent will need to get the cell phone
from the office. Note: The same guidelines/consequences apply to MP3, DVD players and
items of this nature.
- Detentions:
Will be on Tuesday and Thursdays from 2:55 - 3:55 PM. If a student cannot serve on the day
the detention has been assigned, the student will receive a 2nd detention.
Honor Roll Criteria
* The six core subjects are: Religion, Reading, English/Writing Lab, Math, Science and
Social Studies.

* An achievement/effort grade of D or F in any core or Co-Curricular subject eliminates
a student from being on the honor roll.
* To achieve High Honors a student needs to earn a Straight A Average in the core

in the core subjects.
